Emsworth Business Association:

2011 St. George’s Day Commemoration.

As all members of this organisation are situated so close to that major Army Centre on Thorney Island, Emsworth’s Business Association had once again decided to majestically celebrate St George’s Day, by strongly encouraging yet another splendid Military Parade of the 47 Regiment, Royal Artillery, which is located on this Island.   This year, it had decided – in addition – to create a few extra, highly attractive, events in some of the town’s more conspicuous – highly popular – locations, a resolution which aimed at emphasizing the importance of such a major commemoration, to all Emsworth’s residents, wherever they live,  work, eat, drink and socialize.

The first of these took place within the Spice Village Indian, Restaurant, situated in the central Square of Emsworth – on Monday, 18th April – when the highly-spirited group, known as Emsworth Community Singers, had also agreed to entertain all those present by performing a fascinating concert in this charismatic Restaurant, which – on such an important occasion – was chock-full, all enjoying their remarkably flavoursome food, and then – all of a sudden – the music!   Accompanied by a vibrant, electronic keyboard and led by the melodic voice of the energetic Louise Russell, this unusually dynamic group performed several highly harmonious songs, all of which were of such an incredibly distinctive character that they deserved the enthusiastic applause from all those now enjoying the popular musical atmosphere of this restaurant.

Toward the closing stages of this mesmerizing event, Brendan Gibb-Gray – the resourceful Councillor who had organised it – not only dedicated the evening to the overall programme of St George’s Day Celebrations, but then memorably confirmed that all this evening’s takings had been pledged to the Army Benevolent Fund.   Very soon, the owner – Abdul – appeared, announcing “this could be somewhere between £1200 and £1600”, to the huge admiration of those present, all of whom then continued to enjoy the remainder of their memorable dinner in his – highly popular – Spice Village, even though the Emsworth Community Singers had now ceased their series of outstanding presentations.

A Successful concert on Saturday 11th September

We made in excess of £1,000 for the hospices.

The turn-out was full house and over-flow to the balcony.  We thought we were going to have to turn away audience but we managed to fit them all it.

"The concert surpassed any ideas they had had about it and were impressed by the harmonies in the singing. They enjoyed the little introductions by Denise which they felt gave a light and amusing intro to each song.
They thought Roger fantastic and liked the piano where it was so they could see him (they were on the top balcony)
The greatest comment was that they loved the programme. Thought it had been very well put together. Their final comment was 'please do not change it and get more highbrow as they loved humming along with all the tunes'
Thanks must go to Louise for starting the group and to all the committee for their hard work making it such a success."
Best Wishes
Lynda

The Concert which took place on 11th November at The Pastoral Centre, Emsworth, hosted by the Ladies Group - was a complete success and the choir sang brilliantly.

The President of The Ladies Group presented us with a cheque for £50 made out to The Musicians Benevolent Fund.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the members of the 30 strong choir are now keen to sing the same programme again in a few weeks time for friends and family and members of the public who missed the performance.

The programme and date of the repeat concert will be announced in the next few days.

Since the choir has now reached 30 members and looks to be increasing further - we have decided to form a committee to be allocated roles and to help with all the tasks.

Their names are:

John Gains
John Auric
John Reynolds
Lindsay Silvester
Patricia Anderson
