About us
The following is the basic outline
for the choir. Additional
activities may be added as the
need arises. There are
several spaces in The Pastoral Centre that can be used at the same time.
Two main halls – International House and The Main Church - and
one smaller room at the back, called The Wesley Room, when it is free.

The Choir is essentially a Development Group

Anybody can join our choir to get anything out of it
at their own pace

Members will be supported when they wish to learn to
sing as soloists or learn how to do things that are
new to them.
This takes time and practice.

Louise will be available to work in a separate room
with small groups and individuals on part
singing that
they find challenging.
On occasions it will be Denise who splits off
with the groups and individuals whilst Louise
focuses on the main choir

Roger will also be able to work with soloists and
groups to rehearse their music for concerts.

All three directors can swap roles – and both Louise
and Denise can play the piano during the main
rehearsal if Roger is otherwise engaged

Louise also offers individual tuition – privately
arranged in their own time

The main aim of the group is to encourage
development.
It is recognized that
people come from different places of
experience and so methods chosen to support members
will be different for each person

Men and women who join the group will find they will
make progress in any case – and
will be able to compare the before and after
and will notice improvements after subtle methods
have been used by the directors to accommodate
awareness of new skills.
Goals, such as concerts, are a means to
compare the before and after

With choosing a programme of music to work on – we
take into consideration the tastes of everyone – so
the list will include items from the following
categories:
- Community Songs
- Folk
- Chants
- Rounds
- Spirituals
- Religious
- azz
- Musical Theatre
- Early Music
- Songs from the Shows
- Ballads

Flexibility is encouraged so that members can adapt
to new concepts and ideas

As the group has
increased in size and we want to be able to continue
to
provide this unique service to
our members, we have a small dedicated team of
helpers in the form of a committee who have taken on
formal roles that you would expect of a community
group of this size – but the spirit of the group
remains always flexible and developing – and we will
always encourage individuals to contribute ideas for
improvement
